The Anachronist is Nicholas Urban, graduate student in liberal arts at St. John’s College, Santa Fe. His relation to “the times” has always been an ambivalent one. He has worked as a computer programmer for years, but been wary about the effects of technology. His anachronism began with his love for the culture of former generations — especially the music, films, and fashion of the 1940s and 50s. Mr. Urban is a long-time dancer and occasional teacher of blues and the lindy hop. He is currently studying bel canto, but with an inclination towards jazz and classic broadway. His philosophical interests tend towards ethics, subjectivity, and the problems of modernity. He started The Anachronist in December of 2009 with the intention of giving a humorous voice to his serious concerns about the modern world. It is his hope that this will be a beacon for others of like mind.
